Why Joel Spolsky and Jeff Atwood are Brilliant A-Holes

So have you seen the latest from the FogBugz/StackOverflow partnership floating around? Yep I’m talking about StackOverflow Dev Days (crowd ooh’s and ahh’s). The truth is all of these channels (i.e. Stackoverflow, Fog Bugz, Joel on Software, Coding Horror) all come under the guise of “helping the community” but the truth is they all lead back to one place – The brand of Joel Spolskey and Jeff Atwood. I’m by no means saying that all of these things aren’t beneficial to the community. I’m just saying that if you strip away all the fluff, what’s really going on is that they are building their brand which happens to be the brand of themselves.
