PEAR Blog: PHP 5.3 Windows and PEAR (go-pear.phar)

The PEAR blog has a quick note for users of PHP 5.3 and Windows:

Some users have reported that the windows builds of PHP 5.3 are not able to open the shipped go-pear.phar file.

If this is your situation, you can use their workaround (run the distributed phar version) or grab the non-pharred version.

Let me clear up some myths:

    1. PHP 5.3.1 (VC-6 compiled for Apache 2.2 use) does *NOT* include the fix!!
    (but it was promised)
Same error as in summer 2008.

    2. It is bloody hard to figure out where and how to download PHAR standalone, since there’s no guide anywhere, so you’re simply on your own here, groping in the dark.
So many thanks for the non-pharred version because I would otherwise have a complete day off
Thank you very much too to the developer (let’s not name him here) for retirement in the project and leaving a MAJOR bug behind. Yes it IS a major bug, because a) Windows users cannot run PEAR at all and b) generating a new go-pear.phar is only easy for Linux users; Windows users are 99% unguided and on their own here.

    3. Figures suck ;P
